Trigonox A-W70 is tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP, CAS 75-91-2) supplied by Nouryon as a 70 % solution in water. It is an initiator for bulk, aqueous solution and emulsion polymerization of styrene, acrylates and methacrylates, and is widely used to make acrylate, vinyl acetate and styrene-butadiene latices.
It is also used to cure styrene-polyester resins and as an oxidizing agent for hydrocarbons. Its 10-hour half-life temperature is 164 °C. For a cumyl-based alternative, see Trigonox K-90. Store Trigonox A-W70 between 0 °C and 35 °C in tightly closed original containers. The lower limit prevents freezing. Keep it in a dry, well-ventilated area away from heat, ignition sources and direct sunlight, and away from reducing agents such as amines, acids, alkalis and heavy metal compounds.
