Thermal Stability & Storage

As with all organic peroxides, Trigonox® 121 is thermally unstable and can undergo self-accelerating decomposition. The Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT), determined by the Heat Accumulation Storage Test per UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, is 35°C.

This is a temperature-controlled organic peroxide. Per the source PDS:

Maximum storage temperature (Ts max.): 5°C

Control temperature (Tc): 20°C

Emergency temperature (Te): 25°C

Trigonox® 121 must be kept refrigerated and requires temperature monitoring against the control and emergency temperatures above, in addition to the Ts max. limit — this is a stricter regime than the single Ts max./Ts min. storage window used for the other organic peroxide products on this site. Under recommended storage conditions, Trigonox® 121 remains within specification for at least 3 months after delivery. Store in a dry, well-ventilated place away from heat and ignition sources and direct sunlight; never weigh out product in the storage room; avoid contact with reducing agents (e.g. amines), acids, alkalis, and heavy metal compounds (e.g. accelerators, driers, metal soaps). Refer to the Safety Data Sheet for full handling guidance, including emergency-temperature response procedures, prior to use.
