Controlled rheology polypropylene (CR-PP): High meltflow index polypropylene grades are produced by post reactor treatment. These high melt-flows are achieved by peroxide-initiated degradation during extrusion of the polypropylene. The advantage of this process is the high flexibility; the peroxide concentration controls the final viscosity. Coagent for flame retardant polystyrene: Polystyrene is made flame retardant by the use of halogen-containing additives such as hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD). Perkadox® 14S-FL can be used as a synergist in such systems thereby leading to a significant reduction in the amount of HBCD required.

Product Description

Perkadox® 14S-FL serves two distinct applications. For controlled rheology polypropylene (CR-PP), high melt-flow index polypropylene grades are produced by post-reactor treatment, where the high melt-flow is achieved through peroxide-initiated degradation during extrusion of the polypropylene — the peroxide concentration controls the final viscosity, giving this process high flexibility.

As a coagent for flame retardant polystyrene, polystyrene is made flame retardant using halogen-containing additives such as hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD). Perkadox® 14S-FL can be used as a synergist in such systems, leading to a significant reduction in the amount of HBCD required.

Thermal Stability & Storage

As with all organic peroxides, Perkadox® 14S-FL is thermally unstable and can undergo self-accelerating decomposition. The Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT), determined by the Heat Accumulation Storage Test per UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, is 80°C (176°F).

Maximum storage temperature (Ts max.): 20°C (68°F), to prevent caking. Per the source PDS, Perkadox® 14S-FL can be safely stored at up to 30°C (86°F) without loss of activity, though 20°C is the recommended ceiling specifically to prevent caking of the solid flakes. Under strictly recommended storage conditions, it remains within specification for at least 12 months after delivery. Store in a dry, well-ventilated place away from heat and ignition sources and direct sunlight; never weigh out product in the storage room; avoid contact with reducing agents (e.g. amines), acids, alkalis, and heavy metal compounds (e.g. accelerators, driers, metal soaps). Refer to the Safety Data Sheet for full handling guidance prior to use.
