RIPOXY R-804
Product Detail

Product Description

RIPOXY® R-804 is a bisphenol-A epoxy-based vinyl ester resin supplied as a styrene solution by Resonac (formerly Showa Denko). The bisphenol-A epoxy backbone gives the cured resin broad chemical resistance — RIPOXY® R-804 withstands a wide range of acids, alkalis, bleaches, and organic compounds, which is why it is specified for corrosion-resistant equipment in the chemical processing industry rather than general-purpose FRP work.

Compared with standard unsaturated polyester resins, the vinyl ester structure concentrates reactive unsaturation at the ends of the molecule rather than along the backbone, giving the cured laminate better hydrolysis resistance and toughness — properties that show up directly in R-804's postcured mechanical data below (tensile elongation of 4.0–5.0%, versus the roughly 2% typical of a rigid orthophthalic or isophthalic polyester).

Application

RIPOXY® R-804 is used for filament winding, hand lay-up, spray-up, and centrifugal casting of FRP equipment exposed to corrosive service — storage tanks, process piping, scrubbers, and ducting for acid, alkali, and bleach handling in the chemical processing industry. Its heat distortion temperature of 100–110°C also suits applications with moderate intermittent thermal exposure alongside chemical exposure.
