Product Detail

Description

AEROSIL® R 972 is a fumed silica after-treated with DDS (dimethyldichlorosilane). It has the lowest specific surface area of our hydrophobic AEROSIL® range (90–130 m²/g, versus 220–290 m²/g for AEROSIL® R 106 and AEROSIL® R 812), which makes it the easiest of the three to disperse and the broadest in applicability — a good default choice when a formulation doesn't call for the higher-efficiency or system-specific performance of R 106 or R 812.

Unlike R 812, which is only partly suitable for waterborne systems, R 972 performs well in both waterborne and solventborne coatings, as well as 1-pack and 2-pack systems, making it a versatile starting point for rheology control across a wide range of formulations.

Need to compare this model with other grades? Read our full AEROSIL® fumed silica grade comparison guide to choose the right hydrophilic or hydrophobic fumed silica for your formulation.
