Butanox M-50 is the work horse in GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) curing systems. It is a medium-reactive, general purpose methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) with guaranteed low water content, used for curing unsaturated polyester resins in the presence of a cobalt accelerator at room and elevated temperatures. Evergreen Chemicals supplies Butanox M-50 as an authorized Nouryon distributor.
Butanox M-50 is the base grade in this product family. For applications needing a visual mixing indicator, see Butanox M-50 VR, which offers the same curing performance plus a vanishing red color system. For phthalate-free formulations, see Butanox M-50A, a version of this MEKP chemistry without dimethyl phthalate solvent.

Butanox M-50 is a general purpose MEKP for curing unsaturated polyester resins in the presence of a cobalt accelerator, at room and elevated temperatures. The Butanox M-50/cobalt accelerator curing system is particularly suitable for: This curing system may also enable the manufacture of light-resistant parts, contrary to the benzoyl peroxide/amine accelerator system. Long-standing field experience has proven that the guaranteed low water content and absence of polar compounds in Butanox M-50 make it well suited for GRP products such as marine applications.
