Perkadox BTW-50
Product Detail

Product Description

Perkadox® BTW-50 is the preferred BPO (benzoyl peroxide) paste for unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins. It is a paste containing 50% dibenzoyl peroxide, without phthalate, for curing unsaturated polyester resins at ambient and elevated temperatures. At temperatures up to 80°C, Perkadox® BTW-50 should be used with an aromatic tertiary amine accelerator; above 80°C, no accelerator is required.

Perkadox® BTW-50 has primarily been developed for the putty market. For non-filled systems, Perkadox® 40E is better suited with respect to miscibility with the UP resin. Perkadox® BTW-50 shows very good chemical and physical stability and is well suited for tube filling. The Perkadox® BTW-50/amine accelerator curing system gives a very fast cure that is hardly influenced by humidity and fillers, with relatively good cure even at low temperatures. A disadvantage may be the yellow color and poor light resistance of the moulded product.

Low-temperature curing where a relatively good cure is still required

Thermal Stability & Storage

As with all organic peroxides, Perkadox® BTW-50 is thermally unstable and can undergo self-accelerating decomposition. The Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT), determined by the Heat Accumulation Storage Test per UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, is 50°C (122°F).

This is a temperature-controlled organic peroxide. Per the source PDS:

Maximum storage temperature (Ts max.): 25°C (77°F)

Control temperature (Tc): 40°C (104°F)

Emergency temperature (Te): 45°C (113°F)

Under recommended storage conditions, Perkadox® BTW-50 remains within specification for at least 3 months after delivery. Store in a dry, well-ventilated place away from heat and ignition sources and direct sunlight; never weigh out product in the storage room; avoid contact with reducing agents (e.g. amines), acids, alkalis, and heavy metal compounds (e.g. accelerators, driers, metal soaps). Refer to the Safety Data Sheet for full handling guidance, including emergency-temperature response procedures, prior to use.
