Product Description
LOCTITE® 460™ is the outlier in this cyanoacrylate family on chemistry alone — while 401™,406™, 410™, 435™, and 443™ are all ethyl cyanoacrylates, 460™ is formulated as an alkoxyethyl cyanoacrylate specifically to cut down on the odor and "blooming" (the visible white haze that can form around a CA bond as vapor condenses) that ethyl-based instant adhesives are known for. That makes it the natural choice for applications where vapor control is difficult — enclosed assembly areas, visible bond lines, or components where a white residue halo around the joint would be a cosmetic problem. Beyond the low-odor profile, it bonds a wide range of metals, plastics, and elastomers, and is particularly well suited to porous or absorbent materials such as wood, paper, leather, and fabric.

How It's Used
Bond areas should be clean and free from grease — a LOCTITE® cleaning solvent works well for prep. On low-energy plastic surfaces, a LOCTITE® primer can improve adhesion, and an activator can be used where cure speed needs a boost, though this can reduce ultimate bond strength. Adhesive is applied to one bond surface only, the parts assembled within a few seconds and accurately located, then held or clamped until the adhesive fixtures. Full service strength typically develops within 24 to 72 hours, depending on bond gap, materials, and ambient conditions.
LOCTITE® 460™ is not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or as a sealant against chlorine or other strong oxidizers.
Storage
Store in the original, unopened container in a dry location. Optimal storage is 2°C to 8°C — storage below 2°C or above 8°C can affect product properties. Material removed from the container should not be returned to it once it may have been contaminated during use.
Safety
This page summarizes performance data only. Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full handling, storage, and safety information before use.
