LOCTITE® 406
Product Detail

Product Description

LOCTITE® 406™ is purpose-built for one job: bonding plastics and elastomeric materials where very fast fixturing is the priority. It runs at a notably lower viscosity than the general-purpose LOCTITE® 401™ — 12–22 mPa·s versus 401's 70–110 — which lets it wet out and fixture on plastics and rubbers faster than a broader-substrate formulation could manage. That focus does come with a narrower substrate scope: 406™ is scoped to plastics and rubbers rather than the wider metals-plus-porous-materials range covered by 401™ or the rubber-toughened LOCTITE® 410™. It's also qualified to Commercial Item Description A-A-3097, a regional approval worth confirming against your customer's requirements.

    How It's Used

Bond areas should be clean and free from grease — a LOCTITE® cleaning solvent works well for prep. On low-energy plastic surfaces, a LOCTITE® primer can improve adhesion, and an activator can be used where cure speed needs a boost, though this can reduce ultimate bond strength. Adhesive is applied to one bond surface only, the parts assembled within a few seconds and accurately located, then held or clamped until the adhesive fixtures. Full service strength typically develops within 24 to 72 hours, depending on bond gap, materials, and ambient conditions.

LOCTITE® 406™ is not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or as a sealant against chlorine or other strong oxidizers.

    Storage

Store in the original, unopened container in a dry location. Optimal storage is 2°C to 8°C — storage below 2°C or above 8°C can affect product properties. Material removed from the container should not be returned to it once it may have been contaminated during use.

    Safety

This page summarizes performance data only. Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full handling, storage, and safety information before use.
