What is TAPEH?

TAPEH (Tert-Amyl Peroxy-2-Ethylhexanoate) is a highly efficient medium-temperature initiator widely used in BMC (Bulk Molding Compound) and SMC (Sheet Molding Compound) curing, artificial stone curing, and acrylate polymerization. As a highly active peroxide compound, TAPEH significantly improves production efficiency and shortens processing times, making it ideal for industries that require rapid curing.

Safety Features of TAPEH

  • Active Oxygen Content: 6.60%-6.95%

  • Main Decomposition Products: Carbon dioxide, methane, tert-amyl alcohol, heptane, ethane, acetone, etc.

  • Purity: Close to 100%.

Basic Information on TAPEH

  • Chemical Name:Tert-Amyl Peroxy-2-Ethylhexanoate

  • CAS Number:686-31-7

  • UN Number:3115 (Class D Organic Peroxides; Liquid; Grade 5.2)

  • Recommended Storage Temperature: ≤5℃

  • SADT (Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature): 35℃

  • Control Temperature (Tc): 20℃

  • Emergency Temperature (Te): 25℃

Main Applications of TAPEH

BMC/SMC Curing

TAPEH demonstrates superior activity in BMC and SMC curing compared to traditional TBPEH (Trigonox 21S), significantly improving curing efficiency and process outcomes. Using TAPEH not only speeds up curing but also ensures high-quality final products, making it ideal for automotive, construction, and other industries where molding material performance is crucial.

Acrylate and Methacrylate Polymerization

TAPEH is widely used in the polymerization of acrylate and methacrylate monomers. As a highly efficient initiator, it accelerates the polymerization process and is commonly used in the production of high-performance coatings, adhesives, and other industrial applications.

Artificial Stone Production

In artificial stone production, TAPEH acts as a medium-temperature OT (temperature-controlled) curing agent, improving mechanical properties and surface finish. It is especially suitable for high-end artificial stone production processes, where enhanced production efficiency and shorter curing times are critical.

Pultrusion Process for Profiles and Rods

TAPEH performs excellently in the pultrusion process. Compared to traditional benzoyl peroxide (BPO), TAPEH provides stronger curing effects and higher pultrusion rates, effectively improving production efficiency, particularly for high-strength composite materials and profiles.

Packaging and Shipping Requirements

  • Standard Packaging: 30-liter HDPE drums, net weight 20 kg per drum.

  • Nouryon Japan Factory Packaging: 18 kg per drum, compliant with international shipping standards.

  • Shipping Requirements: Due to TAPEH’s higher activity than TBPEH, stricter temperature control is required during transportation. The recommended shipping temperature is ≤5℃, and higher temperatures may cause decomposition and safety hazards, so cold chain transportation is necessary.

Market Overview and Production Capacity

Annual Consumption and Market Size

TAPEH has an annual consumption of approximately 100 tons in China, making it a relatively niche product. While domestic production capabilities exist, the market is primarily dominated by international brands, with local brand recognition being lower.

Market Dominance by International Brands
  • Nouryon: The corresponding model, Trigonox 121, is produced in Japan and exported to China, enjoying high market recognition.

  • Arkema: The corresponding model, Luperox L 575, is widely used in polymerization and UPR curing applications.

  • United Initiators: The corresponding model, Norox 411, is mainly supplied via imports.

Challenges for Domestic Brands

Although domestic manufacturers have the capability to produce TAPEH, investment in this product is limited due to the small market size, technical barriers, and cold chain transportation requirements. TAPEH is not a primary product for local brands, which explains its relatively low market recognition domestically.

TAPEH: The Future Potential of Medium-Temperature Initiators

TAPEH, as a highly efficient medium-temperature initiator, is widely used in BMC/SMC curing, artificial stone production, and acrylate polymerization. Its fast curing and quick processing advantages make it a key raw material in many high-performance material production processes. Despite market competition, TAPEH’s unique benefits offer significant growth potential in future applications.
