Product Detail

Description

Butanox® M-60 is Nouryon's workhorse methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) for GRP curing systems, carrying 10% higher active oxygen than the related Butanox® M-50 grade. It's a medium-reactive, general-purpose MEKP with guaranteed low water content, used with a cobalt accelerator to cure unsaturated polyester resins at room and elevated temperatures.

The Butanox® M-60/cobalt accelerator curing system is particularly well suited to gelcoat resins, laminating resins, lacquers, and castings. It may also make light-resistant parts achievable in cases where a benzoyl peroxide/amine accelerator system would not.

Nouryon's other MEKP family for this site, Trigonox® V328 and Trigonox® V388, are supplied as solvent-diluted MEKP for general GRP curing; Butanox® M-60 is a higher-active-oxygen, concentrated MEKP grade — fabricators comparing curing agents often weigh these families against each other for reactivity and application fit.

Application

Butanox® M-60 is used with a cobalt accelerator to cure unsaturated polyester resins at room and elevated temperatures, in gelcoat resins, laminating resins, lacquers, and castings.

Thermal Stability

As an organic peroxide, Butanox® M-60 is thermally unstable and can undergo self-accelerating decomposition above a certain temperature threshold. Its Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT), determined by the Heat Accumulation Storage Test per UN transport testing criteria, is 60°C.
