Description
Trigonox® V388 is a general-purpose methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) curing agent from Nouryon, supplied as a clear, colorless liquid with 9.8–10.0% total active oxygen — a higher active oxygen content than the related Trigonox® V328 grade (8.8–9.1%). Used with a cobalt accelerator, it cures unsaturated polyester (UP) resins at room and elevated temperatures and is developed for general-purpose GRP and non-GRP applications such as laminating resins and castings. Its higher SADT (55°C, versus 50°C for V328) and longer specified shelf life (6 months versus 3 months under the same 25°C maximum storage temperature) reflect the somewhat greater thermal stability that comes with its formulation. As with other general-purpose MEKPs in this range, for marine laminates specifically, a special MEKP with low water content and no polar components — Butanox® M-50 — is recommended instead to reduce the risk of osmosis blistering.
