Description
Trigonox V388 is a general-purpose methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) curing agent, supplied as a clear liquid in a solvent mixture (CAS No. 1338-23-4). Manufactured by Nouryon, it is widely used to cure unsaturated polyester (UP) resins and vinyl ester resins at room temperature or under moderate heat, in the presence of a cobalt accelerator. Trigonox V388 offers a balanced gel time and cure profile, making it suitable for both hand lay-up/spray-up processes and more demanding molding techniques such as resin transfer molding (RTM).
As a distributor of Nouryon organic peroxides, evergreen chemicals supplies Trigonox V388 in original packaging with full traceability, complete technical data sheets (TDS) and safety data sheets (SDS), and flexible order quantities for composite manufacturers, resin formulators, and trading companies worldwide.

● Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) & Closed-Mold ProcessesIts predictable reactivity profile makes it suitable for closed-mold applications where controlled, uniform curing is critical to part quality. ● Casting & Potting/Encapsulation CompoundsTrigonox V388 is also used to cure polyester and vinyl ester casting resins for artificial marble, buttons, and electrical potting compounds. ● Gel Coat & Tooling ResinsCompatible with standard gel coat and tooling resin formulations when paired with a cobalt accelerator, providing good surface finish and dimensional stability of the tool. Recommended Dosage & Usage GuidelinesTypical dosage ranges from 1.0–3.0 phr (parts per hundred resin), adjusted according to the required gel time, ambient/mold temperature, and the resin system used. Trigonox V388 must always be used together with a cobalt accelerator (e.g., cobalt octoate/naphthenate); never mix the peroxide directly with the accelerator in concentrated form — always pre-blend the accelerator into the resin first, then add the peroxide immediately before application, following standard organic peroxide handling procedure. Thermal Stability & DecompositionTrigonox V388 has a Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT) of approximately 55°C. Above this temperature, the exothermic decomposition rate increases significantly, which is why controlled storage temperature is essential for safe handling. Principal decomposition products include carbon dioxide, water, methyl ethyl ketone, acetic acid, formic acid, and propionic acid. Storage, Shelf Life & PackagingStore Trigonox V388 in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and incompatible materials (accelerators, reducing agents, combustibles). Recommended storage temperature is ≤25°C; under these conditions, shelf life is a minimum of 6 months from the date of manufacture. Standard packaging is 20 kg net in 30 L HDPE drums, with other packaging sizes available on request. Safety & HandlingAs an organic peroxide (UN 3105, Class 5.2, Packing Group II), Trigonox V388 requires dedicated organic-peroxide storage and transport conditions. Keep away from open flame, sparks, and incompatible chemicals; use appropriate PPE (gloves, eye protection) when handling. Full precautionary information is provided in the current Safety Data Sheet (SDS), available on request or via the Downloads section on this page.
Q1: What is Trigonox V388 used for?Trigonox V388 is a methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) curing agent used to cure unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins, mainly in hand lay-up/spray-up lamination, RTM, gel coat, casting, and tooling applications. Q2: What accelerator should be used with Trigonox V388?Trigonox V388 must be used together with a cobalt-based accelerator, such as cobalt octoate or cobalt naphthenate. Never mix the peroxide directly with concentrated accelerator — always pre-mix the accelerator into the resin first. Q3: What is the recommended dosage?Typical addition levels range from 1.0–3.0 phr, depending on the required gel time, ambient temperature, and specific resin system. We recommend running a small trial batch to confirm gel time before full-scale production. Q4: What is the shelf life and how should it be stored?Under recommended storage conditions (≤25°C, away from direct sunlight and heat), Trigonox V388 has a minimum shelf life of 6 months from the date of manufacture. Q5: Is Trigonox V388 the same as Trigonox V388 VR?No. Trigonox V388 VR is a red-colored (pre-tinted) version of the same MEKP chemistry, used when a visible color indicator during application is required. The base peroxide chemistry and dosage guidance are similar, but they are separate product codes — please contact us to confirm the correct grade for your application. Q6: What packaging sizes do you offer?Standard packaging is 20 kg net in 30 L HDPE drums. Other packaging sizes and private labeling may be available depending on order quantity — please contact us for details. Q7: Can you provide the SDS/TDS and other compliance documents?Yes, current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Technical Data Sheets (TDS) are available for download on this page, or can be sent directly by our sales team upon request. Q8: What is the MOQ, lead time, and do you offer samples?MOQ, lead time, and sample availability vary by order size and destination. Please contact us via the inquiry form, WhatsApp, or email for a quotation tailored to your requirements. | |
