It is used in conjunction with a cobalt promoter for curing unsaturated polyester resin at room temperature or elevated temperature. Its phthalate-free formulation distinguishes it from the standard dimethyl-phthalate-based grades in this family — Butanox M-50 and Butanox M-50 VR— making it a relevant option where phthalate restrictions are a formulation concern. It can also be used for thermal curing of unsaturated polyester resin under conditions of 100–127°C.
