Trigonox K-80
Product Detail

Description

Trigonox® K-80 is a cumyl hydroperoxide (CHP) from Nouryon used as an initiator across emulsion, solution, and bulk polymerization reactions — a different role from the MEKP and BPO curing agents on this site, which cure already-formed unsaturated polyester resins. In emulsion processes, Trigonox® K-80 can be activated by organic-soluble or water-soluble reducing agents, or by metal compounds, to achieve polymerization at room temperature or lower. Without accelerators, effective polymerization typically occurs between 50–200°C — for example, styrene and methyl methacrylate can be bulk-polymerized with Trigonox® K-80 in the 60–100°C range. For emulsion polymerization of various vinyl monomers, Nouryon's related grade Trigonox® K-90 can be combined with reducing agents to achieve reproducible results at low temperatures.

Thermal Stability

As an organic peroxide, Trigonox® K-80 is thermally unstable and can undergo self-accelerating decomposition above a certain temperature threshold. Its Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT), determined by the Heat Accumulation Storage Test per UN transport testing criteria, is 75°C for small cans, 70°C for IBCs, and 65°C for bulk tanks.

Major Decomposition Products

Acetophenone, 2-phenylisopropanol, and methane.

This is a hazardous material (organic peroxide) — please review the official Safety Data Sheet before handling. Contact our sales team to request the latest TDS/SDS documents for Trigonox® K-80.
