Product Detail

PRODUCT Description

TR-102 is a high-production paste wax mold release from TR Industries, formulated with excellent breakdown characteristics for fast, even coverage. It's a firm carnauba-based mold release paste wax blended with other synthetic waxes for use across thermoset composite molding applications. TR-102 is rated for use up to 200°F (93°C); for higher-exothermic molding above that range, see TR Industries' TR-104 Hi-Temp Mold Release.

PRODUCT FEATURES:

★ High carnauba wax content polishes to high gloss without streaking

★ Good heat and chemical resistance properties

★ Easy application and wipe off characteristics

★ Reduced wax build up and styrene accumulation

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES:

Dry Time: 5-10 minutes@ 72°F. Varies depending on working temperature

Specific Gravity: .80-.82 (approx. 6.75lbs./Gal)

Wax Melting or Softening Point: 185 - 200°F (85 - 93°C)

Color: Off-white

USES:

As a release agent for composite molding on all FRP tooling, metal and other hard surface molds.

★ Open mold hand or spray lay up

★ Resin Transfer/injection (RTM) & (RIM)

★ Vacuum bag and compression molding

★ Polyester & epoxy resins

Applications

On new or reconditioned tooling, TR recommends applying sealer glaze TR-301 or TR-910 semi-permanent sealer before waxing, for added release, gloss, and mold life. Apply the wax with a sponge applicator in a thin, even circular motion across the mold surface, allow to haze dry (approx. 5–10 minutes depending on ambient temperature), then polish to a gloss finish with a soft cloth (not microfiber). For new or reconditioned molds, apply a minimum of 6 coats of paste wax, waiting approximately 30–60 minutes between coats for the wax to set and harden after polishing.

Best results come from letting the mold stand overnight after waxing and applying a final coat the following day before gel coating, then applying a further coat of wax for the first 2–3 parts released. The number of parts producible before re-waxing is needed will vary with molding conditions, part configuration, resin, mold cycles, gel coat cure, and other factors.
