TBPIN, also known as Tert-butyl Peroxy-3,5,5-Trimethylhexanoate (CAS No.: 13122-18-4, UN No.: 3105), is a vital organic peroxide with a leading position in the Chinese market, with an annual production capacity of approximately 1,200 tons. Widely used domestically, especially in polymerization and curing reactions, it is produced by companies including Arkema, UI, and Nouryon. Among these, Nouryon’s TRIGONOX 42S is primarily imported into China with a relatively small market share and a price around 1.5 times that of similar domestic products.

Basic Information on TBPIN

  • Chemical Name:Tert-butyl peroxy-3,5,5-trimethylhexanoate

  • CAS Number: 24748-23-0

  • UN Number: UN 3105

Key Points about TBPIN

Physical Properties
TBPIN has a flash point of approximately 50°C and a Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT) of 55°C, with a recommended storage temperature of 20-25°C. This stable temperature requirement typically eliminates the need for temperature control during summer transport, facilitating product circulation and use.
Active Oxygen Content and Concentration
TBPIN contains 6.8%-7.1% active oxygen and typically reaches a concentration above 98%, close to pure form, making it an efficient initiator for various industrial needs.

Primary Applications

TBPIN has diverse uses, adapting to multiple polymerization and curing reactions:Styrene Polymerization:
Suitable for the polymerization of styrene and its copolymers within a temperature range of 90-140°C. Acrylate and Methacrylate Polymerization: Ideal for polymerization of acrylates and methacrylates, with a temperature range of 100-175°C.
Thermoset Resin Curing:
Particularly effective for curing unsaturated polyester (UP) resins under high temperatures between 120-170°C, especially in SMC, BMC, and DMC molding processes.
Ethylene Polymerization Initiator:
Excels in low-density polyethylene (LDPE) polymerization, with an initiation temperature of 210-270°C, supporting an efficient polymerization process.

TBPIN is packaged in 25-liter HDPE drums, each containing 20 kg, ensuring stability and safety during transport and storage. With outstanding physical properties and versatile applications, TBPIN is widely used across various chemical and production industries, aiding in enhancing production efficiency.
