Fumed silica is a synthetic amorphous form of silicon dioxide (SiO₂) produced via a high-temperature hydrolysis reaction of silicon tetrachloride (SiCl₄) in a hydrogen-oxygen flame. The process yields ultra-fine particles with sizes typically ranging from 7 to 40 nanometers and surface areas up to 400 m²/g.
These particles are chemically pure, have a very low bulk density, and form a branched, chain-like network, making them ideal for rheology control, reinforcement, and surface modification.
